STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.-- There are not many shops like Brownie's anymore.
In an age when instant gratification is second nature, it seems that kids these days hardly invest time in passion projects like making their own toys. At Brownie's Hobby Shop, located on a cozy corner in Port Richmond, the art of DIY fun is alive and well.
OLD SCHOOL IS STILL COOL The Brownie’s selling point: Radio-controlled cars, boats, planes and helicopters. Vintage reproduction classics — from cartoon themed cars to military ships — line the aisles of the shop. Walking through the store is like walking through a time capsule — in the best way possible. “My goal is to keep that old-school flavor and feel, even though my parents are gone,” John says.
